Former Iowa quarterback Jake Christensen has received the waiver he needs to compete at Eastern Illinois this season, according to EIU's athletics website. He's now cleared for the 2009 season at the FCS school.
Also, he's competing with returning starter Bodie Reeder for the No. 1 job. Christensen took No. 1 reps on Wednesday.
Here, also Wednesday, Christensen talks to ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg about his decision to transfer, which he did not long after Ricky Stanzi helped the Hawkeyes to 9-4 and an Outback Bowl victory in January.
Is this blame he's throwing around here? You tell me.
"The coaches [at Iowa] focused more on the X's and O's than mechanics," Christensen said. "I don't think [offensive coordinator Ken] O'Keefe had much to do with mechanics. If you watch me now compared to last year, it'd be completely different throwing the ball, in a good way."
He lost a job. That's tough for competitors to accept. Some never do.
Former Iowa QB Jake Christensen received NCAA clearance Wednesday to compete for Easter Illinois University this season. Christensen lost the starting job to Ricky Stanzi last season and decided to transfer after the Hawkeyes' Outback Bowl victory in January. (Gazette file)
