Camp 'Stache -- The contest
Marc Morehouse
Aug. 5, 2011 9:57 am
Iowa opened fall camp today, so yes, it's time for some sort of contest.
Last season, QB Ricky Stanzi grew a camp beard. It was charming. He didn't look like Shaggy from "Scooby Do" at all (yes, he did).
In the spirit of America's QB, I had this idea and I think it will work.
Camp 'Stache.
Start growing your mustaches right . . . now. Then on Aug. 20, when camp closes, send me a photo of your camp 'stache.
You can e-mail me, marc.morehouse@sourcemedia.net. Or you can post a pic on the On Iowa Facebook page linked here.
But Marc, what about us ladies who want to enter this contest? I've thought of that. You can do either Camp Hairy Legs or Camp Armpits. Your choice.
The winner gets the Bob Sanders autographed mini-helmet that's pictured above. The story behind that is this: Bob was in CR in '04, not long after he was drafted by the Indy Colts. He did an autograph signing at John Gracey's Athletic Supplies in Lindale. The young guy who ran the place, Nick Olinger, was really great, putting up with me, Tom Kakert and about 250 people who wanted Bob's autograph.
My wife was on a trip, so I had to bring my kids. They were 7 and 4 at the time, so they were a bit impatient. Then it dawned on them, "Hey, everybody wants this guy's autograph. Dad, we want this guy's autograph." And $150 later, they had mini-helmets. I believe they enjoyed them for about three minutes.
I found one the other day. Still in good shape.
That is the grand prize, the signed Bob mini-helmet.
Iowa's camp ends around Aug. 20. Post all entries by midnight. I'll post the pics and award the prize Aug. 21.
So, go grow hair now. Good luck.
The Bob Sanders helmet, top prize in the Camp Stache contest. Good luck!
