Ultimate Escapes Travel, out of Marion and North Liberty, is now offering Orange Bowl packages.
From an e-mail advertisement:
"Your Orange Bowl Package Includes
Two Nights at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 (Fort Lauderdale)
Team Hotels and additional hotel options are available.
Your Stay Can be extended or modified."
It's $925 for a double.
Don't discount this. Travel folks have a network and a definite financial stake in these things.
The whole thing is sort of frozen right now. The BCS selection show wants maximum suspense, and right now that's the Fiesta Bowl. Will it be TCU-Boise State in Phoenix? Or will the Hawkeyes nudge their way in.
Penn State hasn't been officially released, by the way.
The last time Iowa went to the Orange Bowl, in 2002, Iowa officials were told at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Iowa AD Gary Barta should get an official call in an hour.
UPDATE: Just got an e-mail from the Florida Citrus people. They run the Capital One Bowl. The wanted to let me know then the teleconferences were going to be held for their bowls -- Cap One and Champs Sports.
The Cap One's Big Ten participant is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. central teleconference.
