Blogging Ferentz's radio show -- Parker released from the hospital (VIDEO added)
Oct. 1, 2010 8:30 am
Iowa Defensive Coordinator Norm Parker was at home Wednesday night after spending nearly three weeks in the hospital because of diabetes-related complications, Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said on his weekly radio show.
Parker has not coached with the team since the team's opener against Eastern Illinois. He had a medical procedure nine days ago.
"(Parker is) not working in a football mode this week," Ferentz said.
Ferentz said he hopes Parker will return to work next week during the team's bye week.
Here's Ferentz talking about Parker's status Friday:
Ferentz updated the injury status of a couple of players during his radio show tonight.
On running back/special teamer Paki O'Meara, who suffered a concussion against Arizona: "I think that's doubtful right now."
On kicker Daniel Murray, who had a pre-season muscle strain: "He just told me this afternoon he's 100 percent."
On true freshman linebacker/special teamer Christian Kirksey, who suffered an undisclosed injury against Ball State: "We're hopeful Christian will be ready on Saturday." Ferentz added it's "touch and go."
Kirksey, who is listed at 195 pounds, has bulked up by 15 pounds in the last two months, Ferentz said.
Iowa play-by-play announcer Gary Dolphin said wide receiver Marvin McNutt was "running around" at practice Wednesday. McNutt injured his left calf in the second quarter last week against Ball State and did not return.
Ferentz later confirmed McNutt is fine and able to play this week.
Former Iowa linebacker and current Minnesota Vikings starter Chad Greenway will be the team's honorary captain this week against Penn State. The Vikings have a bye.
