Big Ten Network offers Iowa day II

CHICAGO – On Monday, June 22, the Big Ten Network will air this summer's second full day of Iowa programming.

The Iowa field hockey team won the Big Ten Tournament this past year, and the championship game vs. Ohio State will air at 4 PM CT.  Another recent highlight was Brittany Weil's no-hitter against Illinois, her third of the season, which will air at 9 AM CT.

Episodes of The Big Ten's Greatest Games will air during the day and will feature Iowa's 2005 Capital One Bowl vs. LSU, at noon CT.  Also, the 1993 basketball victory in overtime vs. Michigan State will air at 6 PM CT.

Several episodes of Iowa campus programming will air throughout the day, covering subjects from the lives and works of Iowa writers to the devastating flood of 2008. An episode of Big Ten Short Stories will air at 8:30 PM CT, featuring the 1958 Rose Bowl team and former Iowa Athlete of the Year and WNBA veteran Michelle Edwards.

The day of Iowa programming is the second of three full days dedicated to Hawkeye athletics and campus programming that will air this summer. Each university will have three full days of dedicated programming on the network during the next two months.

5am           The Big Ten's Greatest Games

                  Men's Basketball: Iowa 101, Connecticut 95 (OT) (11/24/95)

In the Great Alaskan Shootout, No. 6 UConn started strong, but the No. 10 Hawkeyes kept the Huskies within reach.  Iowa guard Chris Kingsbury, who scored a team-high 30 points in this game, made a spectacular three-pointer with one minute remaining to tie the game at 84. The Hawkeyes dominated overtime and advanced to the tournament's championship game.

 

7am           The Big Ten's Greatest Games

Football: Iowa 24, Michigan 23 (10/21/90)

No. 10 Michigan hosted No. 22 Iowa in Ann Arbor.  The Hawkeyes stopped a late, critical two-point conversion attempt to capture a share of the conference crown and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Hawkeye freshman Liz Watkins delivered a walk-off home run and Iowa senior pitcher Brittany Weil threw the third perfect game in school history. It was also Weil's third no-hitter of the season.

Football: 2005 Capital One Bowl: Iowa 30, LSU 25 (1/1/05)

In one of the most amazing finishes in Iowa football history, the Hawkeyes defeated JaMarcus Russell and the LSU Tigers on a Hail Mary pass by Drew Tate as time expired to shock Coach Nick Saban's squad.

2008 Big Ten Tournament Championship: Iowa 2, Ohio State 1 (OT) (11/9/08)

To capture its third-straight conference tournament championship, Iowa battled Ohio State in overtime and scored off a long corner in the 79

minute of play. Along with the championship trophy, Iowa secured an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

                  Men's Basketball: Iowa 96, Michigan State 90 (OT) (1/28/93)

Just 10 days after the sudden death of Hawkeye Chris Street, Iowa beat the Spartans, led by seniors Val Barnes and Acie Earl. Iowa trailed by 15 with just three minutes remaining before going on a tear, as Earl and Barnes combined for 19 of Iowa's final 21 points in regulation.  In overtime, the Hawkeyes went 14-for-18 in free throws, and afterward dedicated the win to their fallen teammate.

                  Football: Iowa 42, Penn State 35 (OT) (9/28/02)

Iowa built a 22-point fourth-quarter lead before No. 12 Penn State mounted a furious rally to tie the game and force overtime.  Nittany Lion quarterback Zack Mills set a new school record with 399 passing yards, but eventual Heisman Trophy runner-up Brad Banks, starting in his first Big Ten Conference game, led the Hawkeyes with four touchdown passes.

                  Big Ten Championships (3/8/09)

The University of Iowa won its second straight Big Ten Championship team title. The broadcast also features championship wins by two Hawkeyes, juniors Brent Metcalf and Dan Erekson. Metcalf also was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler for the second time. Nine Iowa wrestlers qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Men's Basketball: Iowa 84, Indiana 82 (2 OT) (2/7/04)

All five Iowa starters scored in double figures, led by Greg Brunner's 23, in this double-overtime thriller.  Indiana forced the first overtime by intentionally missing a free throw with one second left and getting a tap-in from Patrick Ewing, Jr., but with two seconds left in the second overtime, Jeff Horner's off-balance lay-up gave the Hawkeyes the win in Bloomington.
