This one might interest some Iowa fans.
A story from the Grand Island (Neb.) Independent explains the recruitment of Hastings St. Cecilia offensive lineman Zach Sterup, a 6-foot-9, 265-pounder.
Here's the lead:
LINCOLN - Iowa assistant coach Reese Morgan warned Zach Sterup what might be coming.
The Hawkeyes were the first to make a football scholarship offer to the Hastings St. Cecilia offensive lineman 12 weeks ago. Before going to an Iowa junior day in late January, Sterup hadn't really had much interest from anybody but Nebraska.
“I thought it was going to be pretty unique, especially that early,” Sterup said. “Then he (Morgan) told me that usually when they offer somebody that early, especially a lineman, then some other schools will offer just because Iowa offered. He tried to brace me for it.”
_______
Sterup has eight offers and likely will have more. Nebraska might be the trump card here, but it's early and it's recruiting. No one really knows.
"Closer to 6-10 than 6-9"?
Would that make him the tallest Iowa player ever, if Iowa landed him, or course? I know Hayden had a tall dude who didn't see the field late in his run.
Herb Wester was big, but he wasn't quite that tall.
