Here's video from today's news conference in Iowa City.
Of course you know, Iowa athletics director Gary Barta fired men's basketball coach Todd Lickliter Monday morning. Here's the news conference from Monday afternoon. This is the entire bit, with some cuts on a just a few questions.
Here, Barta says why he made the move he made.
"Today is step 1. Tomorrow is step 2 and that means the search begins immediately."
There were some testy moments. Barta didn't like a few questions.
"I don't have any sense of needing to land a big fish. I certainly thought Todd was the right person."
"We're likely looking at someone who's currently a head coach, but I wouldn't rule out someone who's ready for that jump."
"Blame some of it on me, blame some of it on Todd and blame some of it on bad luck. Turnover is always something that happens."
University of Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta replies to a question from a reporter during a press conference in which he announced the firing of head coach Todd Lickliter, on Monday, March 15, 2010, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Lickliter was head basketball coach of the Hawkeyes for three consecutive losing seasons. (Liz Martin/The Gazette)
