All football for Texas wideout

Right now, it's all football for LaCorey Shepherd.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound wide receiver is going through spring practice at Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. A couple weeks ago, he visited Iowa's spring football scrimmage. Last week, he committed to the Hawkeyes' 2011 recruiting class.
"Spring game was very interesting, loved the crowd and the fans," said Shepherd, who caught 46 passes for 672 yards and seven touchdowns at Horn last year. "The fans stood out. Great support."
Shepherd also enjoyed Iowa receivers coach Erik Campbell.
"He was very straightforward about me coming in and what I'd be doing," Shepherd said.
He also doesn't mind how the wide receiver depth chart will look in 2011. The Hawkeyes will lose Derrell Johnson-Koulianos and Colin Sandeman this year.
"They're looking for guys that are ready to come in and play," Shepherd said. "I really like the opportunity."
Shepherd calls himself a versatile receiver. Horn runs a spread offense.
"With the offense we run, I play outside," Shepherd said. "But the position I play I can be inside and outside and sometimes in the backfield. I don't know what I'll be doing when I get to Iowa."
Wyoming was Shepherd's only other offer, but that could change. Coaches from Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt were planning visits during spring practice, which runs for 11 practices and concludes with a spring game. Iowa offered Shepherd in February.
Horn's spring game is May 11. After that, it's off to seven-on-seven, which wraps up with a state tournament in Texas.
"Football never stops down here," he said.
Shepherd is the second commitment for the Hawkeyes in the 2011 class. He joins Massachusettes wide receiver Marcus Grant (story coming up on him early next week).
