Absentee ballot can be requested from now until Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.

Iowa City voters will elect three council members in November: two at-large seats and a representative of District B, which includes the east side of Iowa City.

In-person early voting for the special election to fill a vacancy on the Iowa City Council is available at the Johnson County Auditor’s Office.

Laura Bergus was reelected to Iowa City Council with 66 percent of the vote, despite Mayor Bruce Teague asking voters to back her opponent.

North Liberty voters elected Chris Hoffman, who has served on city council since 2007, as mayor. Also, results from other Johnson and Linn County races.

Mayor Bruce Teague and Megan Alter earned the most votes in the Iowa City Council at-large race. Shawn Harmsen will represent District B.

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday as voters cast their ballots in Iowa’s city and school board elections.

The three candidates share their priorities for public safety if elected on Nov. 2.

The three at-large candidates all view affordable housing as an important issue but differ on strategies to provide more housing units.
