I.C. West’s Hayden Hakes leads in three events, Linn-Mar’s Parker Macho in two and teammate Hudson Huberg leads in one
The dual came down to the final bout and Caleb Brown posted a come-from-behind pin to lift Class 1A No. 12 Lisbon to a 39-29 victory over 2A No. 8 Mount Vernon in the Lions Den Duals Saturday at Lisbon.
Girls’ basketball: Early 3-point barrage sends Iowa City West past Washington, 55-45. Trojans finish 10 of 24 from long distance, move to 4-0 in the MVC.
Senior forward Jack McCaffery lost his No. 22 Iowa City West home jersey, so he’s been wearing No. 52 for games at the school. It’s worked well, as he has had scoring games of 40, 38 and Thursday night 29 in a win over Cedar Rapids Washington.

Xavier Saints visited Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors in a boy’s basketball game
The Saints defeated the Warriors in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game.
Cedar Rapids Xavier’s boys’ basketball team lost for the first time this season when Waterloo West beat it in overtime Tuesday night. There was no hangover from that loss Friday night, as the Saints beat up Cedar Rapids Washington.
Cedar Rapids Xavier girls’ basketball coach Tom Lilly has worn a Grinch tie for games just prior to the Christmas break for the last decade or so. Grinch, make that Lilly, picked up his 630th career victory Friday night when his Class 4A ninth-ranked Saints beat up Cedar Rapids Washington, 61-36.

There are six freshmen on the Cedar Rapids Washington varsity boys’ basketball roster this season. Three of them start, as does a sophomore. Another frosh came off the bench Monday night in Wash’s 59-55 season-opening win over Mount Pleasant.
