In this week’s Gazette area Iowa high school golf notes: Competitive golfers brought Iowa City Liberty its first big boys’ golf tournament title, Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Tanner Wachtl earned a big win of his own and Cedar Rapids Xavier set program records.

Cedar Rapids Prairie head football coach Mark Bliss has been at it over 30 years, has enough time put in to retire if he wants. But ball coaches have to coach ball, so Bliss continues.

With Mariah Rollins at libero and Asta Hildebrand as the full-time setter, No. 1 Iowa City Liberty opened the volleyball season with a four-set win over Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Cedar Rapids Washington will host its Warrior Invitational Thursday at Eagle Ridge South Golf Course in Galena, Ill. The field consists of 18 teams, including some of the best teams in Class 4A with a couple from Illinois.

Linn-Mar’s football team will play its first home football game of the 2022 season at Cedar Rapids Prairie because of issues with the installation of field turf at the school’s stadium. The game against Pleasant Valley is Sept. 9.

The Rotary Pribyl Junior Golf Classic serves as a good gauge for Cedar Rapids Prairie’s varsity boys’ golf season. The Hawks swept the open and novice divisions, including placing two of the top three, another in seventh and five in the top 20.
