The junior and the younger of the speedy Swartzendruber twins, Sidney Swartzendruber blazed from behind Friday morning at Drake Stadium to give Cedar Rapids Kennedy its first Drake Relays girls’ championship in 31 years.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy went 9-9 last year, but the Cougars started 6-0 before Tuesday’s overtime loss to Iowa City High and are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A.

Sixteen boys’ basketball teams, most of them from the Mississippi Valley Conference and Central Iowa Metro League, will participate in the inaugural MVC-CIML Showdown.
