The first of two Crossover Challenge boys basketball events is January 3 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in downtown Cedar Rapids. Pairings were set earlier this week for the event, which consists of 14 teams playing seven games.

Iowa State, University of Northern Iowa won tournaments last weekend. Iowa had four champions in Wisconsin. Competition for the boys’ high school season has started, while the girls’ season has hit full throttle, including the annual Dan Gable Donnybrook.All this and more in the Wrestling Weekend That Was.
State cross country, Class 4A: Cedar Falls’ Jaden Merrick leads a pack of four sub-15 finishers in the boys’ race. Liberty’s Keegan Decker finishes third for the second straight year. Prairie is 4th in the boys’ team race; City High girls and boys are 7th.

High school volleyball: Tuesday’s seven area 5A, 4A and 3A regional finals.
"It's our fourth one-score loss of the year," lamented Kennedy Coach Brian White following the 14-7 loss. "If you win those games, all the sudden you are 7-2 and getting ready for the playoffs.
