Vernon campaign gets fifth labor union endorsement

Sep. 22, 2015 3:52 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Monica Vernon's campaign for the Democratic nomination in Iowa's U.S. House 1st District has scored another labor endorsement.
The Great Plains Laborers' District Council of Laborers' International Union of North America is the fifth union to endorse Vernon. Two years ago, the union endorsed former Iowa House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque, who lost the general election. Murphy and Cedar Falls advertising executive Gary Kroeger also are seeking the 2016 nomination for the 1st District seat.
Laborers' Vice President and Midwest Regional Manager John Penn said the union members know when Vernon is elected, 'her priority will be making sure they get a fair shake in today's economy.”
Laborers' Local Union 43 Business Manager Randy Rayner said he's worked with Vernon 'and know that when we send her to Washington, she'll be fighting for the working families of Local 43 and others like them.”
