DUBUQUE - Get the government off your back was today's message from Congressman Ron Paul.
The presidential hopeful was in Dubuque today to talk to his supporters. This is Paul's sixth trip to the Hawkeye State. He urged supporters to take part in the Ames Straw Poll on August 13th.
The congressman from Texas wants to bring the troops home from Afghanistan. He says we can no longer finicially afford for them to be overseas.
He believes that the federal government needs to control spending. Paul says that the federal government has spent and borrowed too much money. The congressman wants the Treasury Department to put restrictions on how much it spends and borrows.
Paul also wants the federal government to play a smaller role in the lives of the American people.
“I believe if we can protect your liberty, your right to life, your rights to your liberties and fruits of your labor, and to get the government off your back and out of your wallet. So even if you have a bad year that if you have your freedom back, you would be able to get back on your feet and be prosperous,” said Rep. Paul.
Congressman Paul is now in New Hampshire. He is one of the seven candidates in tonights presidential debate.
