Romney plans campaign stops in Iowa

Aug. 6, 2012 5:15 pm
DES MOINES – Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will make a campaign stop in central Iowa to appeal for support from middle-class voters.
The Romney campaign announced Monday that the GOP candidate would be holding a public event at the central campus school just west of the downtown area on Wednesday morning. The public event will follow a private fundraiser at a West Des Moines venue on Tuesday evening.
“Under President Obama, the middle class has suffered 42 straight months of unemployment above 8 percent, falling wages, rising health care premiums, and rising energy prices, said Romney spokesman Shawn McCoy. “The president claims his economic plan has ‘worked,' but the middle class is feeling the consequences of an economic strategy built around higher taxes, record debt, and government dependency. Governor Romney will be in Des Moines to discuss how we can strengthen our middle class and restore America as the best place in the world to find a job, start a business, and hire a worker.”
The former Massachusetts governor previously made stops in Council Bluffs, Davenport and Dubuque in June and was in Des Moines twice during May.
