A new national poll says a plurality of young people have a negative view of Donald Trump.
The poll, conducted for Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill., said 49 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 24 had an unfavorable view of Trump, the New York developer who has been leading most of the other polls in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.
The poll, which focused solely on young people, was conducted Dec. 12-13 by Triton Polling and Research of Bend, Ore. It is the second poll conducted over the past few months for Monmouth College.
The opinions of 300 people were sampled.
The poll also said 17 percent had a favorable opinion of Trump, while the rest were undecided or hadn't heard enough to make a decision.
Also, 46 percent said they opposed Trump's plan to temporarily stop Muslims from entering the United States. Thirty-two percent said they support it, while the rest were undecided.
About 57 percent of respondents were registered voters, with those evenly divided among Democrats, Republicans and independents. The poll also said that almost 38 percent of those surveyed said they'd vote for Hillary Clinton in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, while 25 percent said they would vote for Trump. The others wouldn't vote or were undecided.
