Iowa political experts are skeptical the endorsement will move the needle significantly in a race still dominated by former President Donald Trump

Tuesday is Election Day in cities and school districts across Iowa. Early voting numbers reported in two Eastern Iowa counties show interest in these elections is lagging compared to 2021.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds plans to endorse Ron DeSantis for president, giving the Florida governor’s 2024 campaign a boost as he struggles to show progress against Donald Trump in the Republican primary, two people familiar with the matter said Sunday.

The window to register for the mail-in absentee process began Wednesday, party officials announced. Presidential preference cards will be mailed starting Jan. 12. Democrats have until 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 to request a card.
