Mariannette Miller-Meeks faces David Pautsch in Tuesday’s GOP primary

On this week’s episode, looking at fundraising in Iowa’s statehouse campaigns, previewing the Iowa primary, and the one-year anniversary of the downtown Davenport building collapse.

While some legislative primary elections are small, low-budget grassroots affairs, others have seen fundraising of tens of thousands of dollars, TV advertising and endorsements from prominent statewide groups.

Flanked by cybersecurity and law enforcement officials on Tuesday, Iowa’s top election official said Iowans’ votes in the 2024 primary election — scheduled for next Tuesday — will be counted “accurately and securely.”

A bill to ensure payment was not passed this year by state lawmakers -- to whom the measure would apply.

Johnson County supervisors are paid about $90,000 a year and serve four-year terms. With three seats up for election, the majority of the five-member board faces county voters this year.

Though he criticized the legal challenges Trump is facing, Grassley told reporters he had not been closely following the trial that began late last month. He said he was spending time in meetings and voting in Washington and holding town halls in Iowa.
