O’Brien reports raising $180,000 for Iowa 1st District Democratic race

Dave O'Brien is reporting he has raised more than $180,000 for his campaign to get the Democratic nomination in Iowa's U.S. House 1st District.

O'Brien, a Cedar Rapids attorney who is one of five Democrats seeking the nomination, said he raised $78,000 and ended the fourth quarter of 2013 with $125,000 cash on hand.

The fundraising report covered contributions made between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2013.

The latest numbers exceeded his fundraising goal, O'Brien said, and the resources will allow him to “make a strong case to voters that the 1st District needs a representative who will focus on reinvigorating the middle class and creating new economic opportunities for working families.”

“It's time to get serious about making our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top,” he said.

O'Brien got off to the strongest fundraising start of any of his rivals, raising nearly $105,000 during the quarter ending Sept. 30, his first quarter of fundraising.
