Obama returning to Iowa next week

UPDATE: President Barack Obama will return to Iowa twice next week, with stops planned in Ames and Des Moines.

Obama's campaign announced Wednesday he would hold an event Tuesday in Ames and then will return Sept. 1 for the visit to Des Moines.

The trip will come less than two weeks after Obama's three-day bus trip across Iowa that included stops in numerous cities.

The announcement of the latest visits came shortly before likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney's held a campaign event in Bettendorf.

Both candidates are competing hard in Iowa, which is one of about six battleground states that likely will decide who wins the general election.
