Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton plan Iowa visits

Oct. 3, 2014 10:47 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Like ghosts of elections past - or, perhaps, elections future - Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton are heading to Iowa to stump for candidates ahead of the Nov. 4 midterm election.
Romney, the unsuccessful GOP nominee in 2012, will be in Cedar Rapids Oct. 13 to campaign with U.S. Senate candidate Joni Ernst. He'll also campaign with the Red Oak state senator in Des Moines the day before.
Clinton, an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 and a favorite for her party's nomination in 2016, will campaign with Ernst's opponent, U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, and 3rd District hopeful Staci Appel, according to news reported Friday. No details about the visit have been released.
They're not the only surrogates coming to Iowa for the Senate candidates. Texas Gov. Rick Perry was in northwest Iowa Friday night for Ernst. Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown will campaign for Braley at 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Democratic campaign office, 245 Classic Car Ct. SW.
Also Friday, U.S. Rep. Steve King announced Donald Trump will do a fundraiser for him at a West Des Moines private residence.
