Longtime Iowa City resident running for council seat

IOWA CITY - Longtime Iowa City resident Pauline Taylor will be adding competition to the Iowa City Council's District A race.

Taylor, who moved from Des Moines to Iowa City in 1970 to attend the University of Iowa and graduated four years later with a Bachelor's degree of science in nursing, has filed the paperwork to run for Iowa City's District A council seat.

'I love Iowa City and over 41 years (since graduating) I've seen it grow a lot,” Taylor said Friday. 'I think it has grown in a very positive way and I'd like to see it continue to move in that direction.”

Taylor said her hope is to see Iowa City's growth continue, but in a responsible and positive way. She noted the need for affordable housing, responsible development and racial equality as key points of focus in her campaign.

'My strength is I'm a good listener, I think we do need is a council that is listening to the concerns of the people,” she said.

Taylor retired in 2011 from her full time position at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, but still holds an hourly position there.

The District A seat is currently held by incumbent Rick Dobyns, who is running for a second term.
