IOWA CITY - John Thomas, a retired landscape architect and member of the Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission, has made his bid for Iowa City Council.
In a news release Monday, Thomas announced his candidacy for Iowa City's District C, which is currently held by Councilor Jim Throgmorton.
Thomas said he will push for accessible and accountable government, preservation and enhancement of the city's private investment while making equitable decisions, high-quality neighborhoods and safe, tree-lined streets.
'During the campaign, I will be reaching out to the people of Iowa City, asking for their views on making their neighborhoods, commercial districts and our city healthier and more prosperous,” Thomas said in the release. 'I look forward to many conversations with Iowa Citians on the campaign trail.”
Thomas received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California-Berkeley and a master's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Michigan.
He has served on the Friends of Hickory Hill Park board since 2010 and has been on the city planning and zoning commission since 2012.
