Jamison seeks to be state treasurer

Mar. 1, 2010 3:25 pm
DES MOINES – Story County Treasurer David Jamison today announced he is running to be state treasurer.
The Ames Republican formed an exploratory committee in December and has been traveling the state since then gauging support and talking to Iowans, he said.
“Clearly, Iowans are concerned about the direction of our state government and troubled at the apparent indifference of our elected leadership,” Jamison said in announcing his statewide bid.
“It is time for everyone who cares about the future of our children and grandchildren to step forward and get involved,” he added. “The best way for me to help is to lead a campaign to put Iowa first.”
Jamison has served as treasurer of Story County for 16 years during which he said he has built a reputation as an innovators and an elected official who is not afraid to challenge the bureaucracy.
Jamison said he was involved in getting county treasurers statewide to use the ONE Web site for online transactions and he encouraged county officials to engage in leadership training and development.
Jamison and his wife, Karen, have three children. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, with a business administration degree from Iowa State University and a finance master certification from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Currently, Mike Fitzgerald, a Waukee Democrat, is Iowa state treasurer. He was first elected to the post in 1982.
