CORALVILLE -- Rep. Dave Jacoby, D-Coralville, is running for re-election in announced today that he will seek re-election from House 30, which includes Coralville, North Liberty, Tiffin, Iowa City, and Penn Township .
“With many Iowans struggling in today's economy, my top priority is to help middle class families and small businesses,” Jacoby said. “We must create new jobs and balance the state budget while keeping our commitment to students from preschool to higher education.”
Jacoby, 54, was elected after the resignation of Rep. Dick Myers in 2003. He is an assistant majority leader and serves on the Appropriations, Rebuild Iowa and Disaster Recovery, Economic Growth, Commerce, and Administration and Rules committees. Jacoby also is a stand-in member of the Human Resources Committee.
“As a small business owner, I understand the challenges and struggles small businesses face every day,” Jacoby said. “With rising health care costs preventing too many small businesses from opening or expanding, the state must do all we can to help them succeed.”
Prior to the Iowa House, Jacoby was elected to two terms on the Coralville City Council where he was a leader in developing policy in a high-growth and community-oriented city. He has worked as a program director of Workforce Initiatives for 23 years at Kirkwood Community College. He now runs a small business, Dave's Resale, specializing in antiques and estate sales.
Jacoby is also a member of Carpenter's Local 1260, the Chamber of Commerce, State Workforce Board, Victory Riders Association, and St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville.
Dave and his wife, Lynette, have two daughters.
