And then there were two.
The Iowa Caucuses have traditionally served as a proving ground where candidates get winnowed down before moving on to the next race. But, with candidates dropping out, a few candidates not invited, and the race’s poll-leading candidate not attending, it’s already down to a two-person debate.
It could be an important night for any undecided Republican voters out there in Iowa.
When: The debate will be held tonight at 8 p.m. CST.
Where: Des Moines. At Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium.
The Candidates: Former South Carolina Governor and US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, and current Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis.
How to Watch: The debate will air live on CNN, available in most cable packages. You can also stream the debate on CNN Max, CNN apps and at CNN.com.
What will Donald Trump be up to? Can I watch it?
As has been the case in previous debates, there will be a very important elephant not in the room at tonight’s GOP debate. He even has a rival cable news network to televise his event this time around.
Former President Donald J. Trump will join the Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum at 8 p.m. tonight for a live town-hall event in Des Moines. It will be broadcast on Fox News and can be streamed at Foxnews.com with a cable login.
Trump, still dominating in recent polling, has refused to debate other candidates so far this election, instead choosing to run counter programming in the same city and same time of the debates.
It is an unorthodox move, done seemingly to delegitimize his opponents and jump start his campaign for a rematch with President Joe Biden. Has it bothered Republican voters, though? If the votes line up with the polling, the answer appears to be no.
