Hogg files for re-election

Mar. 8, 2010 5:56 pm
Sen. Rob Hogg, D-Cedar Rapids, will seek a second term in the Iowa Senate from Senate 19, which is most of northeast and southeast Cedar Rapids.
“I am running for re-election to continue the work of rebuilding from the disaster of 2008 and preventing future flood damage,” Hogg said. “There is nothing more important for the future of Cedar Rapids than preventing another flood catastrophe.”
As chair of the Senate Rebuild Iowa Committee, Hogg has worked on flood recovery including the state's $56 million recovery package in 2009 for housing, individual unmet needs, and community disaster assistance. Hogg also helped stop a proposed new state office building in Des Moines in favor of making those infrastructure dollars available for disaster recovery through the I-JOBS program.
Hogg served two terms as a state representative before being elected to the state senate in 2006. During his legislative career, Hogg has been instrumental in securing state financial assistance for local priorities such as the Corridor STEM Initiative for math and science education, a new community corrections mental health treatment facility, and Vision Iowa funding for the restoration of the Iowa Theater building.
“The state can be a partner in the success of our community,” Hogg said.
Hogg currently sits on several other legislative committees including Appropriations, Ways and Means, Judiciary, and Energy and Environment.
In addition to serving in the Legislature, Hogg is an attorney at Elderkin & Pirnie, P.L.C., in Cedar Rapids. He and his wife, Kate, are members of Christ Episcopal Church. They have three children.
