Former Sen. Webb to raise funds for Linn Democrats

CEDAR RAPIDS – Former U.S. Sen. James Webb of Virginia, who has left open the possibility of a 2016 presidential run, will headline a Democratic fundraiser in Cedar Rapids later this month.
Webb, who did not seek re-election in 2012, will be the guest of the Linn County Phoenix Club, a Democratic fundraising group, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 20 at the RWDSU Local 110 Hall, 526 F Ave. NW. Tickets are $50 for Phoenix members; $100 for non-members.
Webb defeated a Republican incumbent in 2006 largely on his record on the strength of his record as a combat veteran who opposed the Iraq War and his opponent's apparent ethnic slur.
In May, he was asked about his plans and whether he might seek the presidency.
'My wife and I are just thinking about what to do next,” Webb said. 'I care a lot about where the country is, and we'll be sorting that out.”
