Election turnout hottest in four District 3 precincts
Dec. 1, 2009 3:00 pm
The turnout in today's two City Hall runoff races is below the turnout in runoff races for the City Council in 2005.
However, in 2005, four of the nine City Council races had runoffs; this year, only two races do.
At 3 p.m. today, 5.15 percent of the registered voters had turned out to vote compared to 7.09 percent at 3 p.m. four years ago.
This year, voters citywide are picking between Don Karr and Aaron Saylor for an at-large council seat, while voters in nine of the city's 47 precincts also are picking between Jerry McGrane and Pat Shey in council District 3.
In the District 3 precincts, turnout exceeds 10 percent in four precincts. Voting sites for those are Grant Wood Elementary School, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Monroe Elementary School and Erskine Elementary School.
Voter turnout is highest by far at the Erskine school site – 15 percent -- where neighbors just last week descended on the City Council to protest a proposed sidewalk project there.
