As of 11:00 a.m. today, the Iowa City Community School District was experiencing the highest voter turnout since 1995 and the fourth highest turn out in the past 32 years, Johnson County Auditor Tom Slockett said in a news release.
The release indicates that total of 829 voters, or a total of 1.1 percent of registration, went to the polls this morning. In 1995, when the vote to build Wickham Elementary was on the ballot, 1,011 voters had gone to the polls before 11 a.m.
Polls are open until 8 p.m. for school elections across Eastern Iowa. Voters must go to their specified school polling places, as many of the locations are different than where they may vote during other elections.
