Dvorsky running for re-election in Senate 15

CORALVILLE -- Sen. Bob Dvorsky, D-Coralville, is seeking re-election in Senate 15, covers northern Johnson County and parts of Linn County.
“Helping middle class Iowans and small business owners in Senate District 15 emerge from this national economic recession will be among my top priorities,” Dvorsky said.
Dvorsky is completing his 15th year in the Iowa Senate after having served seven years in the House.
As chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Dvorsky has played a key role in keeping a legislative agenda that includes education as one of the top priorities moving forward in Iowa for the past several years.
“Funding for education, including K-12, community colleges and our universities, remains a primary goal of state government, even in tough economic times,” he said. “I'll keep fighting for our kids so they can continue to have access to world class educational opportunities at all levels.”
Dvorsky also has been able to secure funds for flood recovery in the district, including $27 million for Coralville and $10 million for Iowa City through the I-JOBS program. Dvorsky helped direct $100 million toward rebuilding on the University of Iowa's campus, including Hancher Auditorium. Dvorsky has also secured $2.6 million in funds for a homeless shelter in Iowa City.
Dvorsky graduated from Iowa City's University High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in recreation administration and master's in public administration from the University of Iowa. He is an executive officer with the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
Dvorsky and his wife, Sue, have two daughters.
Senate 15 incoludes Coralville, part of Iowa City, Oxford, Morse, North Liberty, Shueyville, Solon, Swisher, and Tiffin as well as including Bertram, Ely, Lisbon, Springville and Mount Vernon in Linn County..
