Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton will be back in Iowa on Labor Day, with stops at union events in the eastern part of the state, as well as the Quad-City Federation of Labor's annual picnic at Illiniwek Park.
Clinton's campaign says she will be at the Hawkeye Labor Council Picnic at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids at 11:15 a.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. appearance at the Quad-City Federation of Labor's Salute to Labor chicken fry at 1:30 p.m. The picnic is at Illiniwek Park in Hampton, Ill.
After that, Clinton will go to the Des Moines-Henry County Labor Council picnic in Burlington at 4 p.m.
She will also be in the state on Sunday, but details have not been released yet on her itinerary that day.
The campaign says Clinton will be in the state to 'celebrate the contributions of working families' and will focus on 'the need for an American economy where everyday Iowans can get ahead and stay ahead.' Recently, Clinton released a plan aimed at helping the agricultural economy and rural communities.
Her appearance here comes on the heels of a new poll that says rival, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, has closed the gap in Iowa.
A Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll, released last weekend, said that 37 percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers support Clinton, while 30 percent back Sanders.
Clinton was leading by more than 40 points in late May, according to the poll.
Also in the race for the Democratic nomination are former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, former Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia and ex-Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee.
Sanders is making his own swing through the state this week. He'll be in Grinnell, Ottumwa and Burlington on Thursday, and on Friday he'll make stops in Muscatine, Tama and Cedar Rapids.
