Kasich, 63, is a two-term Ohio governor and has 18 years of legislative experience in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was first elected to public office in 1978, at the age of 26, to a seat in the Ohio Senate. He was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1982.
After leaving Congress in 2000 and running for president, Kasich worked as a managing director for investment banking division of Lehman Brothers, until the bank collapsed in 2008, an event that helped trigger the global financial crisis and Great Recession. He was also a commentator for Fox News and is the author of three books.
Kasich grew up in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1974. He and his wife, Karen Waldbillig Kasich, have twin daughters, Emma and Reese.
