The first woman to lead a Fortune 100 company, she was CEO and president of computer maker Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2005.
She presided over the historic but controversial 2002 merger of HP with Compaq Computer Corp. In 2005, HP'S board ousted her. Fiorina started her career at AT&T Corp. in 1980 and then was an executive at AT&T spinoff Lucent Technologies before getting HP's top job in 1999, making her the first woman to head a Fortune 100 company.
She was an adviser on John McCain's presidential bid in 2008, the same year she lost a bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer in California.
The Austin, Texas, native earned her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, then graduate degrees at the University of Maryland's business school and the MIT Sloan School of Management. She battled breast cancer in 2009.
She is married to Frank Fiorina, her second husband. She has two stepdaughters, one of whom died at age 35 after a struggle with alcoholism and drug abuse.
