A day after launching her campaign for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, state Rep. Shannon Lundgren, R-Peosta, rolled out more endorsements from current and former Republican colleagues in the Iowa Legislature.
State Rep. Gary Mohr, R-Bettendorf, praised Lundgren’s record of taking on “tough fights” at the Statehouse, “whether it was lowering taxes, stopping illegal immigration or supporting small businesses.”
“Iowa needs that kind of grit in Congress, and I am honored to give her my complete and total endorsement,” Mohr said in a statement released by Lundgren’s campaign.
State Rep. Barb Kniff-McCulla, R-Pella, cited Lundgren’s work on cutting red tape, lowering taxes and supporting Main Street businesses. “Shannon Lundgren has been a champion for hardworking Iowans in the State House … I know she’ll fight just as hard for us in Congress,” Kniff-McCulla said.
Former Iowa Congressman and state Rep. David Young, R-Van Meter, also threw his support behind Lundgren. “Northeast Iowa needs a strong conservative voice in Congress and I’m proud to endorse Shannon Lundgren,” Young said, adding that her experience would translate to results in Washington.
Former state Rep. Brian Best, a Republican from Glidden, state Rep. Jennifer Smith, R-Dubuque, and Jackson County Supervisor Mike Steines also endorsed Lundgren’s campaign.
Lundgren, who has represented parts of Dubuque County in the Iowa House since 2017, is seeking the Republican nomination for the open 2nd District seat in 2026. The district covers much of northeast Iowa. She announced her campaign Tuesday. She is seeking the GOP nomination for the U.S. House seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, who is running for U.S. Senate in 2026 to succeed retiring Iowa GOP U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, who is not seeking re-election.
Lundgren is among four Republicans vying for their party’s nomination to fill the open Eastern Iowa seat in 2026. Former Iowa U.S. Rep. Rod Blum of Dubuque, State Sen. Charlie McClintock of Alburnett and former state lawmaker Joe Mitchell of Clear Lake also are competing for the GOP nomination.
Central Iowa union group endorses Trone Garriott
Ironworkers Local 67, a Central Iowa construction and architecture labor group, endorsed Sarah Trone Garriott in the Democratic primary in Central Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
Trone Garriott, of West Des Moines, and Jennifer Konfrst, of Windsor Heights, both state legislators, are seeking their party’s nomination to challenge Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn.
“Sarah Trone Garriott has always stood with hardworking Iowans,” Ben Nizzi, president of Ironworkers Local 67, said in a press release distributed by Trone Garriott’s campaign. “She has a 100 percent lifetime labor voting record, and she has never wavered in her support for the rights of workers to organize and to earn a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. Sarah understands the challenges facing working families, and we know she will continue to be a champion for us in Congress.”
