DES MOINES — A conservative group is running ads in Iowa supporting Republican incumbent U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn, both of whom are running for re-election in competitive districts in 2026.
American Action Network is running ads in 25 U.S. House districts, including Eastern Iowa’s 1st District, where Miller-Meeks is the incumbent, and Central Iowa’s 3rd District, where Nunn is the incumbent.
The ads are part of a $3.2 million campaign, according to a spokeswoman for the group. The ads focus on federal Republicans’ legislation that eliminated taxes on tips and overtime pay.
American Action Network is a nonprofit issue advocacy group that, according to its website, creates, encourages and promotes “center-right policies based on the principles of freedom, limited government, American exceptionalism, and strong national security.”
Miller-Meeks has defended tax cuts included in Republicans’ sweeping tax and spending bill signed into law this summer by Republican President Donald Trump, saying it prevents a projected tax hike and includes “pro-growth” provisions for small businesses and workers.
Nunn also has promoted the law, saying it “locks in the largest middle-class tax cut in American history” and highlighting benefits like expansion of the child tax credit, reducing taxes on tips and overtime, and targeted relief for small businesses and rural communities.
Democrats argue the bill massively slashes Medicaid and SNAP, jeopardizing access to health care and food aid for millions. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated the changes could cause millions of Americans to lose health insurance coverage and add trillions to the national debt.
Young Democrats group endorses Trone Garriott
Sarah Trone Garriott, a Democratic candidate in Central Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, has been endorsed by the Future Forum PAC, the political arm of a group that represents young Democrats in the U.S. House.
Trone Garriott, a state lawmaker from West Des Moines, and Jennifer Konfrst, a state lawmaker from Windsor Heights, seek their party’s nomination to challenge Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn.
Trone Garriott is the third endorsement for Future Forum this election cycle.
“Sen. Garriott — a parent, legislator, and Lutheran minister — is an exciting candidate both for young voters and for Iowans at large,” the group said in a press release. “She knows what it takes to win difficult elections, and we’re excited to help her get across the finish line in this primary and next November.”
Future Forum PAC provides financial and strategic support to its endorsed candidates, the group says.
