Christina Bohannan, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House in Eastern Iowa’s 1st District, announced raising more than $500,000 in the first 24 hours after her official campaign launch earlier this week.
Bohannan on Tuesday announced her third Congressional campaign. She seeks her party’s nomination to again challenge Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks.
In a news release, the Bohannan campaign said the early fundraising creates “a sizable war chest” for her campaign, which the campaign said came “from everyday Iowans.”
The next quarterly federal campaign fundraising reports are due July 15.
“I’m so grateful for the outpouring of grassroots support we’ve received over these past 24 hours,” Bohannan said in the news release. “As your Representative, I’ll take on the corporate special interests and Washington insiders that are leaving the middle class behind. Unlike my opponent, my vote is not for sale. I’m running for Congress to put Iowans first.”
‘Next generation’ leadership group endorses Trone Garriott
Democratic candidate Sarah Trone Garriott’s Congressional campaign has been endorsed by The Next 50, an organization that works to get “the next generation of leadership on the center left” elected.
Trone Garriott, a state senator from West Des Moines, is one of two Democratic candidates in central Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, along with state Rep. Jennifer Konfrst, of Windsor Heights. They seek their party’s nomination to challenge Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn.
In a news release, The Next 50 Executive Director Mari Manoogian says the group “has a proven track record of identifying and nurturing next-generation leaders in the battlegrounds that can lead the Democratic Party out of the wilderness,” and will work with candidates it endorses to boost fundraising and leadership capabilities.
