Last week's local-option sales tax referendum is final, with the opposition adding a few votes to its narrow margin in the final count.
The Linn County Board of Supervisors certified the official canvass at this morning's work session. The final results show the proposed 20-year extension of the one-cent sales tax failed by just 24 votes countywide,18,909-18,885.
Absentee ballots added 5 "no" votes in the metro bloc (Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Fairfax, and Robins), for a 221-vote margin.
Supporters of We Can Do Better CR gather celebrate a narrow victory as the last of the results of Tuesday's local option sales tax vote on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Starlight Room in Cedar Rapids. We Can Do Better CR oppose the extension of the LOST in Linn County. (Cliff Jette/SourceMedia Group)
