Appointments
ACT Inc. in Iowa City hired Pat Steinbrech as chief information officer of information technology and operations and Bryan Maach as vice president of marketing research and analysis. Steinbrech was previously with Johnson & Johnson. Maach had been with Cisco Systems.
James Israel (see photo), president of John Deere Financial, and Steven Leath (see photo), president of Iowa State University, have joined the Iowa Business Council. Membership consists of the top executives of 20 of Iowa's largest employers, the three Regent universities and Iowa's largest banking association.
Point Builders hired John Armon (see photo) as director of business development. Armon will be responsible for client relations and sales in the Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls markets.
United Fire Group Inc. appointed Michael Phillips to the board of directors. Phillips is the founder and president of Investors' Actuarial Services, in Timonium, Md.
Physicians' Clinic of Iowa added Lesley Vancura (see photo) to its team of hematology and oncology providers.
Innovative Software Engineering announced Joe Barry (see photo) has joined the company as vice president of business development. Barry was previously the managing partner at Mercer Administration in Iowa City.

Gregory Hughes (see photo) was elected chairman of the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee for the Iowa Supreme Court.
