HIAWATHA — A ribbon-cutting will be held this week at the new UnityPoint Health PACE Senior Care center, scheduled to open this spring in Hiawatha at 1450 N. Center Point Rd.
The 22,000-square-foot facility offers services designed to help eligible Iowans — ages 55 and up — remain in their homes and stay as healthy as possible.
It is the only program of its kind in the area and is the fourth UnityPoint Health PACE center in Iowa, according to a UnityPoint news release. PACE stands for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly.
PACE staffers will be able to help participants with home health and rehabilitation, and they can coordinate primary medical care, specialty visits, medications, and therapy and social work appointments for participants.
The center also will provide transportation for participants to and from their home to the center and to other medical appointments in the community.
Those coming to the center also can build relationships with their peers in the facility’s recreation center, receive medical care at an on-site clinic and have a hot meal in the dining area.
The idea, UnityPoint said in the news release, is to “provide peace of mind for participants and their families by providing a range of services under one roof.”
