How did you happen to come to live and work in Eastern Iowa?
I moved to Eastern Iowa (Cedar Falls) through marriage and to Cedar Rapids through the
Meth-Wick Community Inc.
Did you start out in this line of work?
I started out my career in human resources, then in HR within a retirement community. I enjoyed the working environment and the people.
When asked to continue working with residents and their families in administration, I realized I had found what I wanted to do when I grow up.
What's the best day of the week to be in a meeting? The best time of day?
Tuesday mornings are my best time for meetings. Everyone is ready to go in the morning, and there has been an opportunity to get “organized” on Monday.
What was the last book you read?
Have Nook, will travel. I usually read several books at once.
The last book I read, after hearing the author speak in April, was “Fierce Conversations” by Susan Scott. The subtitle is “Achieving Success at Work and in Life One Conversation at a Time.”
It is a good reminder of how important one-on-one conversation is.
Where is your favorite place to get away?
The Lake of the Ozarks - sun, water, boating and limited cellphone reception. We have enjoyed years of family vacations at the lake, and our young adult children still enjoy spending time with us there.
What do you always have close at hand at your desk?
Close at hand on my desk is always a calendar, as life is often scheduled out for months in advance; photos of my family and some really good dark chocolate to share with visitors to my office.
