Syncbak, a Marion startup, says it has completed a financing round that will enable it to complete the trial of its Internet TV technology in 50 television stations.
Completion of the company's Series B finance round brought the total capital raised by Syncbak to $5.6 million, from investors such as the National Association of Broadcasters, Consumer Electronics Association, Northwest Broadcasting and three former NBC executives.
The funds will be used to complete the trial of Internet TV technology in 50 television stations from seven major broadcast groups this summer.
Syncbak's technology uses proprietary hardware that enables both Syncbak and its broadcast partners to stream personalized TV via the Internet to authenticated viewers on connected devices.
The technology is expected to enable broadcasters to provide ad-supported and pay-to-view programming through an unlimited multichannel lineup, and Syncback expects its platform to be a launch pad for personalized viewing of niche and traditional broadcast content.
“Completing our Series B financing puts us in an excellent position to hire additional staff, put a consumer facing on Syncbak and continue building out our network of connected affiliates,” says Jack Perry, founder and CEO of Syncbak, said in prepared remarks. He said the stations piloting Syncbak's technology are getting a glimpse of Internet-age TV, which the company see as a personalized viewing experience for consumers and a renaissance for broadcasters.
Syncbak was founded by Perry in 2009.
