Sears could be replaced as an anchor tenant at Coral Ridge Mall after the retailer sold its Coral Ridge store - and 10 other Sears "anchor pads" - to mall owner General Growth Properties.
Chicago-based General Growth announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Sears Holdings to acquire 11 Sears "anchor pads" in its retail centers, including the Sears store at Coral Ridge, for $270 million.
While it's not clear that Sears will leave all the centers, it will be leaving some of them.
"I can tell you that we are in talks with a number of retailers that have expressed interest as replacement tenants for these locations, including Coral Ridge; but we're not in the position at this time to share with you these names," wrote David Keating, vice president of communications for General Growth, in an e-mail.
