Sears Holdings announces more closures
Jul. 7, 2017 12:39 pm, Updated: Jul. 7, 2017 2:36 pm
Sears Holdings has added more stores to its chopping block.
The Illinois-based retail company said Friday it will close an additional 43 Sears and Kmart stores across the United States. The announcement comes after Sears Holdings already announced it would close about 265 stores earlier this year, Business Insider reported.
'This is part of a strategy both to address losses from unprofitable stores and to reduce the square footage of other stores because many of them are simply too big for our current needs,” Sears Holdings CEO Eddie Lampert said in a statement.
None of the closings stores announced Friday are in Iowa, but some Iowa Kmarts and Sears stores previously have been announced to close.
Sears operates a store at Lindale Mall on First Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids.
Sears Holdings said earlier this year it would close Kmarts in Iowa City, Marshalltown, Dubuque, Sioux City and Waterloo.
