Waterloo- and Hiawatha-based KXEL radio launched an FM signal, mirroring its AM signal, at the end of last year, the company said in a news release Tuesday.
The station carries locally produced and syndicated programming and sports.
Its FM simulcast is available at 100.5.
“This is truly the best of both worlds,” Jeff Stein, KXEL’s news and program director, said in the release.
“We have the wide geographic distance that the KXEL-AM signal reaches, while at the same time providing the Cedar Valley with an always-clear FM signal.”
Owned by NRG Media, KXEL AM began on-air programming in 1942. It was the first U.S. station to broadcast with the maximum 50,000-watt clear channel signal, the station said in the release.
