The existing complex of buildings at Prairiewoods in Hiawatha has received LEED Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council.
The certification was believed to be the first of its type in Iowa for a nonprofit's existing buildings.
A plaque presentation ceremony will be held on at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Prairiewoods, 120 E. Boyson Road, Hiawatha, for the certification.
The green features at Prairiewoods include solar panels that generate 24,600 kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year, an Energy Star rating of 91 for energy efficiency and meeting United States Green Building Council criteria for green products in a high percentage of products used and food served at Prairiewoods.
