Power outage hits 1,100 in southwest Cedar Rapids

UPDATE: Alliant Energy's website showed no customers without power in Cedar Rapids as of about 12 p.m. Tuesday.
More than 1,000 Alliant Energy customers in southwest Cedar Rapids were without power Tuesday morning.
Alliant expected power to be restored between 11 a.m. and noon Tuesday.
Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Alliant reported on its website that 1,194 customers in the Westwind Creek neighborhood were experiencing a power outage. An Alliant spokesman later said the outage was caused by a piece of underground equipment that failed.
Alliant estimated the outage began at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and power would be restored between 11 a.m. and noon.
