A popular northeast Cedar Rapids entertainment center reopened Wednesday under new ownership.
Nick and Britney Edwards bought Play Station Family Fun Center, 200 Collins Rd. NE, with the idea of moving back closer to family.
'We grew up in the Anamosa area,” said Nick Edwards. 'For the past 12 to 14 years, my experience has been running resorts and water parks.”
The couple has two young children and wanted an opportunity to be closer to their family, he said.
'We ended up holding our 3-year-old son's birthday party on the last day Play Station was open under the previous ownership,” he said. 'The previous owners were here, we got to talking and the rest is history.”
Edwards said the interior of Play Station has been renovated with upgrades in the restrooms as well as new carpeting and paint. Food options have been expanded with the addition of soft- serve ice cream and slushies as well as more healthful food choices.
'We have some bigger plans to do additional interior improvements at a later date,” Edwards said.
Play Station, which opened in 1993, closed May 4. The business is located near the new Hobby Lobby, which is marking its grand opening in Collins Crossing.
