More Than $2.3 Million for Electrical Line Improvements in Iowa City Area
Iowa City Area Development Group
Feb. 24, 2014 12:00 pm
Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack announced that the Farmers Electric Cooperative will receive $2,325,145 to weatherproof 128.7 miles of electrical overhead line, which were damaged in previous ice storms and severe weather. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The Farmers Electric Cooperative is based in Kalona, but serves a portion of Johnson County.
These funds will strengthen 128.7 miles of overhead electrical lines to better withstand the effects of ice, snow and high winds. The project includes installing additional poles, replacing existing poles with higher strength poles, and replacing aging copper conductors.
